Your post reminded me of this book; ‘The white road. A journey into obsession’ by Edmund de Waal. He describes among many other interesting things, a story about a potter named Pousa that threw himself into the kiln when he saw his porcelain pots would not go right ‘whereupon the bowls were finished’. He became the idol who watches over the workers in porcelain. Apparently in Jingdezhen many workshops have images of Pousa looking down from the shelves.
Really enjoyed reading this, thanks for sharing. I giggled at the thought of how many of us would actually climb into the kiln as witness cones of we could, ha!
