Studio session #1: "Making a beautiful moment eternal"

Reflecting on Axel Salto's thoughts on stoneware while working on a cup

Much of my work here consists in holding many threads until I can sort them all on the page and into a tapestry. The name of my Substack is “Notes of a ceramic artist” precisely because the research and obsession with connecting everything to clay is not separate from my own practice. This obsession informs the way I think about my work. The next natural progression is connecting the two, here. I am hesitant in doing so, and I admit that many of my ideas do not work out and are dutifully abandoned, but I do hope that you will enjoy my attempt at bringing together words and practice.

On occasion, I intend to bring you glimpses of my studio life, with making sessions accompanied by a piece of writing I was thinking about while making. This more practical look behind the scenes is a great opportunity to think about some of the stories we have previously discovered together, so this also acts as a form of extended content if you will.
